PDP begins Ondo governorship campaign Tuesday

The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the commencement of its campaign for the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, is expected to rally prominent political figures, including former Presidents and Vice Presidents, alongside party members from across the nation.

This was disclosed in a Friday statement signed by the party’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga.

“We invite all former Presidents and Vice Presidents who are still members of the PDP, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), all serving and former members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), all serving and former PDP Governors, former leaders and members of the PDP National Assembly Caucus, and other critical stakeholders to join us for the flag-off,” the statement read in part.

The gathering, set for 10am, though with the venue yet to be confirmed, will serve as the official launch of the PDP’s campaign for its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, and his running mate, Festus Akingbaso.

The campaign is particularly crucial as the PDP seeks to reclaim leadership in Ondo State.

The party leadership highlighted the significance of this moment, calling on all Ondo citizens and party members to come together to ensure victory.

“Let us join hands with the good people of Ondo State to ensure the victory of our Party and Governorship Candidate, His Excellency Alfred Agboola Ajayi, as we lead the charge to restore good governance,” the statement read.

Manga, in the announcement, emphasised that the election is about much more than just winning power—it’s about restoring hope.

“We are committed to ensuring that Ondo State experiences a government that prioritises the needs of its people. Our candidate, Ajayi, is dedicated to bringing Ondo State to new heights of development,” Manga asserted.

PUNCH Online reports that the party will be contesting against the incumbent governor from the All Progressives Congress, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and others.
