End of The Road! Nigeria Eliminated from FIFA U17 Women's World Cup

Nigeria fell 2-0 against USA in the first quarter-final match of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, on Saturday.

Goals in either half from Kennedy Fuller (PK 43′) and Kimmi Ascanio (74′), handed Nigeria her only defeat in the competition, and exit from the title race.

The Group A winners had a perfect record in the group stage, scoring 9 goals, conceding 1 and claiming 3 victories.

Coach Bankole Olowookere had won bronze at the last edition in India, and was poised to chase for a winner’s medal in Dominican Republic.

However, Team USA proved a more formidable Opponent ensuring they shutout the Nigerian girls for a comfortable win.

Nigeria’s exit means from this edition of the competition means Africa’s wait for a first title win in a major Women’s football tournament will continue.

Africa’s other representatives, Zambia. and Kenya were both eliminated in the first round.
