AFMESI to empower150 entrepreneurs

The African Marine Environment Sustainability Initiative has concluded plans to train 150 people how to harness the blue economy potential at a two-day workshop billed to take place later this month in Lagos.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the organiser of the event, who is also the president of AFMESI, Dr Felicia Mogo.

The event has been themed ‘Achieving Blue Growth in a Changing Climate: Integrating the Coastal Communities’.

Mogo explained that the training aimed at empowering about 150 early and mid-career groups in the maritime sector.

“The free workshop on day two is targeted at building the capacity of about 150 early and mid-career groups in marine and Blue Economy in Africa and beyond,” she said.

She added that the event would also present opportunities to learn, network, and collaborate on shaping the future of Africa’s blue economy journey.

According to Mogo, expectations of the programme are for key global and regional stakeholders and experts from governments, industry, academia, and civil society organisations to discuss strategies for sustainability and value addition to blue ecosystems in Africa.

The AFMESI president asserted, “The free workshop on day two is targeted at building the capacity of about 150 early and mid-career groups in marine and blue economy in Africa and beyond.”
