Boniface nets as Leverkusen falters in comeback draw against Holstein Kiel
Holstein Kiel earned a stunning 2-2 draw against defending Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. Kiel fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the first eight minutes.
Leverkusen got off to a great start, with Victor Boniface scoring in the fourth minute off a nice feed from Exequiel Palacios.
Palacios then set up Jonas Hofmann for a second goal four minutes later, putting Leverkusen ahead.
However, Kiel fought back. Max Geschwill’s header just before half-time cut the deficit.
Fiete Arp equalized in the 69th minute from the penalty spot after Jeremie Frimpong fouled Armin Gigović.
Despite late pressure from both sides, the match ended in a hard-earned point for Kiel, marking a memorable result for the Bundesliga newcomers.
