Bruno Labbadia Not Involved in Player Selection for AFCON Qualifiers
Bruno Labbadia will make his debut as the head coach of the Super Eagles on September 7 when the team faces the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, followed by a match against Rwanda three days later.
However, the German coach was not responsible for selecting the squad for these games.
According to reports, Austin Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, extended the invitations to the players.
Eguavoen was rumored to be on standby to lead the team before Labbadia’s sudden appointment last night.
Bruno Labbadia is expected to begin the AFCON qualifiers on a positive note, aiming for victories in both matches.
It is the first time the German will manage a national team, bringing with him over a decade of experience from club management.
The 58-year-old has previously managed eight different clubs across nine spells but has yet to secure a trophy in his coaching career.
