CAFCC: Enyimba Edge Etoile Filante On Penalties In Uyo
In a tension soaked encounter in Uyo, Enyimba FC of Nigeria defeated Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso 3-2 on penalties as both teams played goalless in the second leg of the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday, Sports247 reports.
Enyimba held their Burkina Faso opponent to 0-0 draw in the first leg played in Abidjan last week but Etoile Filante returned the favour in Uyo, as both sides ended the tie 0-0 over the two legs which forced straight into penalties.
Enyimba converted three out of their first best of five shoot out while Etoile Filante could only converted two and lost out on 3-2 on aggregate to send the home teams fans into wild jubilation.
Enyimba remains the only Nigerian team left in the continent as Elkanemi Warriors, Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers, Nigeria’s representatives have all exited their various CAF Inter club competitions.
Enyimba will now proceed into the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and fly the Nigeria flag as the sole team looking for honours on the continent as well improving the country’s coeffient in terms ranking, to retain the four teams slot for the country in CAF Inter clubs competition.
