Court issues public summons against Yahaya Bello over N110.4bn fraud

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summon against former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

The court has ordered Bello to appear and respond to a new 16-count charge that has been filed against him.

Bello, along with two other defendants, is required to attend court on October 24 for arraignment as per the court’s order issued by Justice Maryanne Anenih.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had requested the summon, which was granted by Justice Anenih in a ruling on Thursday.

In addition to attending court, Yahaya Bello is also instructed to have the public summon published in a widely circulating newspaper, as well as posted at his last known address and in prominent areas within the court premises.

The EFCC had previously been unable to serve Bello with the charge, which accuses him and two others of criminal breach of trust amounting to N110.4billion.

The other two defendants in the charge are Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.

Yahaya Bello’s absence stalled the arraignment earlier scheduled for Thursday.
