Gakpo, Salah On Target As Liverpool Pile More Misery On
Liverpool compounded Pep Guardiola’s misery after defeating Manchester City 2-0 in Sunday’s Premier League at Anfield.
Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were the heroes, with each finding the net to ensure the hosts claimed all three points.
The game began at a frenetic pace, with Liverpool immediately taking the initiative.
Virgil van Dijk hit the post with a header and then nodded wide from a corner shortly after, while Gakpo blasted over as City found themselves unable to cope with the relentless wave of Liverpool attacks.

But with just over ten minutes remaining, City made a mess of things at the back and could not recover. Stefan Ortega, in goal in place of the dropped Ederson, charged off his line and wiped out Luis Diaz, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot.
Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in midweek against Real Madrid but no mistake here, whipping the spot-kick into the bottom corner to effectively seal victory.
Manchester City’s frustrations were compounded when Kevin De Bruyne, introduced as a substitute, was denied by a superb double save from Kelleher in the 83rd minute.
The Reds go 11 points clear of their opponents and nine ahead of second-placed and third placed Arsenal and Chelsea.
