How I lost urge to make music — Humblesmith
Singer, Humblesmith, known for the hit track, ‘Osinachi’, has said that at some point in his career, he lost the urge to make new music.
Speaking on the inspiration behind his new song titled, ‘Sochi’, he said, This is the first song I’ve recorded this year, and I had promised myself I wouldn’t go to the studio again or release another song. At some point, I lost the urge to record, but this song brought back all the energy. The hunger to get it right and bounce back pushed me to put out something new, and I give God all the glory.”
The singer also stated that not getting any revenue from ‘Osinachi’ and other songs he recorded with his former label, N-Tyze, was emotionally draining.
He said, “There are details you’ve already heard—I haven’t been receiving royalties or any revenue from my songs. Even when I released the song under N-Tyze, I wasn’t paid any revenue or royalty. People expect that I should be making a lot of money from my songs, but it’s not what people think. The thing has really eaten me up. People play my songs and love me for them, but I’m not getting a dime from the revenue, and it hurts.”
Reflecting on the industry’s darker side, Humblesmith said, “It’s not everything one will say online, but we pray that whatever challenges we face, all glory goes to God. I have seen things in this industry and I understand there are no friends out there. It looks like this industry is governed by a particular circle. It got to a level where it felt like nobody in the industry wanted to listen to me or help me. That means they’ve heard things from some people, and they blackball one.”
