Kamala Harris Smashes Fundraising Records With $540M Haul

Kamala Harris Shatters Fundraising Records, Raising $540 Million in Just Over a Month

In a historic fundraising effort, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has raised an astounding $540 million since she launched her bid on July 21. This record-breaking amount follows President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of Harris.

The campaign’s chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, confirmed that the milestone was reached just before Harris took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday. The campaign saw its best fundraising hour immediately following her acceptance speech.

One-third of the donations came from first-time contributors, highlighting Harris’s ability to energize both large and small donors. The funds were raised across the campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.

This financial windfall gives Harris a significant advantage over her Republican rival, Donald Trump, who reported $327 million in cash on hand at the start of August. As the campaign enters its final 10-week sprint to election day on November 5, Harris and Trump are polling neck and neck, with a crucial debate scheduled for September 10 in Philadelphia.

Harris’s fundraising success marks a sharp turnaround from earlier in the campaign, when major donors had paused contributions following a difficult debate performance by Biden in June. The campaign has also mobilized a “virtual army of volunteers,” according to O’Malley Dillon, while Trump’s battleground infrastructure remains thin.

Harris, 59, left the Democratic convention in Chicago with growing momentum, having outraised Trump and eliminated his previous polling lead.
