LeBron Sets Boundaries With Son Bronny At Lakers

Ahead of the 2024/2025 NBA regular season, scheduled to tip off on October 22, Los Angeles Lakers’ small and power forward, LeBron James Sr., has established professional boundaries for his son, LeBron Raymone “Bronny” James Jr., regarding their father-son relationship on the court.

Bronny, the 19-year-old eldest son of the NBA’s all-time scoring leader and four-time champion, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, marking a historic moment as father and son prepare to play under the same franchise.

Bronny was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, deep in the second round, with only three picks remaining.

LeBron Sr. stated this during a podcast program, The Shop, emphasising that while their bond remains strong, the professional environment demands a distinct approach.

He added that Bronny will not be allowed to call him “Dad” during games or practices, highlighting the need for a professional atmosphere.

“He cannot call me ‘Dad’ in the workplace,” LeBron Sr. said.

“Once we leave the practice facility and the gates close, I can be ‘Dad’ again in the car, if we ride together, and at home. But on the court, he’s got to call me something else—like ‘2-3,’ ‘Bron,’ or even ‘GOAT’ if he wants.”

According to LeBron, maintaining professional conduct on the court will help both of them stay focused on their respective roles, reducing distractions stemming from their family relationship in a high-stakes professional setting.

“It’s easy for me because I’ve been calling him ‘Bronny’ for so long,” LeBron explained.
