Mary Trump’s Four-Word Response to Donald Trump’s Post About Women

In a fiery rebuke on X to her uncle’s recent social media post about women’s issues, Mary Trump has fired back with a scathing four-word response: “So says the rapist.”

The sharp retort came after former president Donald Trump took to Truth Social to lambast the current state of affairs for women in America.

In his characteristically all-caps style, Trump declared that women are “POORER,” “LESS HEALTHY,” and “LESS SAFE” than they were four years ago, promising to “FIX ALL OF THAT, AND FAST.”

Newsweek contacted Trump’s campaign via email on Saturday for comment.

Mary, a clinical psychologist, and daughter of Donald’s brother Fred has been a persistent thorn in the side of the Trump campaign as he seeks to reclaim the White House. In 2020, she published a book entitled Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, which was critical of her famous uncle.

Her latest social media jab references the May 2023 civil trial verdict that found the former president liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996 during a shopping outing in Manhattan.

While the jury stopped short of finding Trump guilty of rape, they awarded Carroll $5 million in damages for sexual abuse and defamation.

In the latest post, Trump claims that women would “NO LONGER BE THINKING ABOUT ABORTION” under his leadership, asserting that the issue now rests “WITH THE STATES, AND A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE.”

This stance aligns with Trump’s recent moderation on the abortion issue. During the ABC News hosted presidential debate against vice president Kamala Harris, he declined to commit to signing a national abortion ban, stating, “I’m not in favor of an abortion ban, but it doesn’t matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states.”

However, Trump’s role in appointing three conservative justices to the Supreme Court during his administration, which led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, has made abortion a pivotal issue in the upcoming election. Since the High Court’s ruling, 14 states have stopped nearly all abortion services and three states have enacted six-week bans, according to an ABC News reporting made in June.

Recent polling conducted on August 29 by Redfield & Wilton Strategies for Newsweek found that 34 percent of eligible voters consider abortion a determining factor in their vote. Out of 862 people, 19 percent said they would vote for Trump and 53 percent said they would vote for Harris. The survey had a sample size of 2,500, with a 1.96-percentage point margin of error.

Mary’s criticism of her uncle extends beyond policy disagreements. During a scheduled appearance earlier in the afternoon on MSNBC’s The Katie Phang Show, she offered some insights into her estranged uncle’s childhood and dysfunctional character development while discussing her latest book Who Could Ever Love You: A Family Memoir.

While acknowledging the hardships of his upbringing, she argued that his problematic traits were “valued by his father” and “put to good use” in the Trump household.

“Donald is exactly the same person now as he was when he was a teenager,” Mary stated, cautioning against leaders who “do not evolve as human beings.”
