National Grid collapses for 10th time in 2024
The national grid in Nigeria recently experienced another collapse, marking the 10th incident this year. This particular breakdown, around 2:09 pm, disrupted power distribution nationwide.
Recent data shows an increasing frequency of these collapses, raising public concerns about the resilience of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
Past instances, including one in mid-October 2024, highlighted power generation dropping to zero megawatts and widespread outages affecting various states.
Officials, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), have announced plans to investigate and address the recurring failures to stabilize the grid.
Despite investments and tariff hikes aimed at securing stable power, issues persist, affecting all 19 power generation companies in the nation at various points this year.
The ongoing situation has prompted discussions on social media and among energy sector analysts about the effectiveness of government measures and long-term solutions needed to strengthen the grid
