NCC to unveil new tariff plan December 13

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has formally announced the introduction of a new tariff plan that is set to take effect on December 13, 2024.

The Commission indicated that it will unveil the new series of tariff plans for telecommunications operators on the specified date.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, conveyed this announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

The commission had initially intended to disclose the new tariff plan on October 27, but this date was subsequently rescheduled.

According to the EVC, the new tariff plan is anticipated to provide relief to telecommunications consumers by streamlining offerings and removing ambiguity surrounding data and airtime utilization.

The NCC has instituted a cap on the number of tariff plans that operators may present, limiting them to a maximum of seven.

To tackle concerns regarding the rapid depletion of data, the NCC has clarified that telecommunications operators are not accountable for this issue. Rather, the type of device utilized plays a critical role in data consumption.

The commission is actively conducting awareness initiatives to educate consumers on this subject and assist them in choosing appropriate devices.

Through the implementation of these strategic measures, the NCC aspires to foster a more transparent and consumer-centric telecommunications market in Nigeria.
