NPFL24/25: “It’s Good for Football” – Enyimba Coach Praises Shooting Stars Fans After Goalless Draw in Matchday 6

In an intense NPFL matchday 6 encounter, Enyimba FC maintained their unbeaten record in Ibadan after a goalless draw against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC).

Despite the home team’s relentless efforts, the People’s Elephant stood strong, extending their streak of not conceding a goal in three consecutive league matches since their loss to Rivers United.

Shooting Stars Coach Gbenga Ogunbote fielded three former Enyimba players—Utim Ikouwen, Desmond Ojietefian, and Anthony Okachi—hoping to break down their former side.

However, both teams cancelled each other out in the first half, with no clear chances to score.

The second half saw more action as Enyimba aimed to exploit counter-attacks, but Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena remained resolute.

Coach Yemi Olanrewaju of Enyimba commended his players’ execution of their game plan, particularly in handling 3SC’s long-ball strategy.

He emphasized that his team was well-prepared for the challenge, knowing 3SC would come out fighting after last season’s defeat.

“I told the boys to expect a tough game, knowing we won here last season,” Yemi said. “We forced them into playing long balls and picked up the second balls to try and catch them on the counter. One or two chances came, but we couldn’t capitalize.”

Despite the hard-fought draw, Yemi was full of praise for the Shooting Stars supporters, remarking on their improvement in conduct.

“The fans were great today, very supportive. Unlike our last visit when we faced a lot of abuse, today they just backed their team. This is good for football.”

Coach Ogunbote, while ruing missed opportunities, assured fans that the team would improve with time, citing the need for cohesion among new players. Both coaches praised the officiating, noting that it was a well-handled match.

Enyimba’s solid defensive display, marshaled by skipper Somairi Alalibo and Paschal Eze, was key to keeping the home side at bay.

Shooting Stars remain eager to build on their performance as the NPFL season progresses.
