Paul Onuachu Reacts to FIFA Puskás Award Nomination

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has expressed his excitement after being nominated for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award, which recognizes the best goal scored in a calendar year.

Onuachu’s stunning acrobatic backheel against Konyaspor last season secured his place among the world’s elite.

The breathtaking goal, scored in the 85th minute, sealed a dramatic 2-1 victory for Trabzonspor and showcased the Nigerian forward’s flair and creativity.

Reflecting on his nomination, Onuachu thanked Trabzonspor fans for their unwavering support during his time at the club.

“I had wonderful days there. I always felt the incredible support of the fans. Their contribution to my success is great,” he said in an interview cited by Turkish outlet 61saat.

Onuachu’s goal faces stiff competition for the Puskás Award, with other nominees including Mohammed Kudus and Alejandro Garnacho, who also delivered spectacular goals.

During his spell at Trabzonspor, Onuachu was in prolific form, scoring 17 goals and registering four assists in just 25 matches.

However, his time at Southampton proved challenging, as he failed to score in 12 appearances before returning to Trabzonspor on loan.
