Super Eagles Diverted to Remote Airport in Libya, Stranded for Hours

The Nigeria Football Federation has reported that the Super Eagles are stranded in Libya following a sudden diversion of their flight.

The team had traveled to Libya for their CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, but were unexpectedly redirected to an airport far from their intended destination.

According to a statement released by the NFF on Sunday evening, the Super Eagles departed Abuja for Benghazi ahead of their match against Libya.

However, about an hour before landing, their flight was diverted to Al Abaq Airport, which is more than two hours away from Benghazi.

The NFF had initially arranged for the flight to land at Benina Airport, Benghazi, where transportation had already been prepared for the team.

Despite the diversion, no buses were provided at Abraq Airport by the Libyan Football Association, leaving the team stranded for over four hours.

Although the NFF made alternative transportation arrangements, they reported that the airport authorities refused to open the gates, leaving the Super Eagles stuck at Al Abaq Airport. The team faces a nearly three-hour drive to reach Benghazi.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play Libya on Tuesday, following their 1-0 victory in the first leg last Friday.
