Super Eagles squad worth 18x times more than Benin squad for 2025 AFCON Qualifiers
The squad that was invited for the Super Eagles’ first two games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is worth 18 times more than Benin’s, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria take on Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in their opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
The Super Eagles are condemned to get back to winning ways after failing to win any of their last three fixtures. Also, the last time both teams met, Benin shockingly defeated Nigeria 2-1.
Nonetheless, even with that loss in June, the Super Eagles are still favourites to claim all three points when both teams clash again due to their superior quality.
Ahead of the game, Soccernet.ng looks into the value of the two squads. And interestingly, the value Super Eagles squad is 18 times more than Benin’s.
Nigeria is valued at €367.45 million according to Transfermarkt, while Benin’s squad is valued at €19.43 million.
Of course, Victor Osimhen adds a lot to Nigeria’s squad value because he is valued at €100 million. The joint-second highest-valued players are Victor Boniface and Samuel Chukwueze, who are priced at €40 million each.
Meanwhile, Benin’s most expensive player is Augsburg star Steve Mounie, who is valued at €6.00 million. The second most expensive player is Tosin Aiyegun, who is priced at €3 million.
Transfermarkt values players based on their performances, the clubs they play for, and the hype surrounding the players.
Still, even with the values of the teams on paper, an upset cannot be ruled out.
