Bet of the day

Bulgaria to beat Luxembourg @ 8/11

Luxembourg’s two previous League C campaigns in the Nations League have seen them pick up some stellar results, but the Benelux battlers look to be in trouble this time around.

Luc Holtz’s men kicked off their Group 3 schedule last month with a 2-0 loss at Northern Ireland and things didn’t improve at home to Belarus as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

That makes it five defeats in six internationals throughout 2024 and a failure to find the net in those five losses is a real worry.

They looked poor up front last month, managing only three shots on target in their September double header, and that must be a concern as they prepare to take to the pitch in Plovdiv to take on Bulgaria.

The Bulgarians have been revived under Ilian Iliev, who was made head coach 11 months ago and has yet to taste defeat in eight internationals — six of those matches finished level, but stalemates against the likes of Hungary and Serbia are not to be belittled.

They beat Northern Ireland 1-0 last time out to move alongside Belarus at the top of the section and they welcome back classy PEC Zwolle playmaker Filip Krastev for this tussle with Luxembourg.

Special of the day

Over 3.5 Goals in Chesterfield v Notts County @ 29/20

There is no love lost between neighbours and recent National League rivals Chesterfield and Notts County, who can lay on a spicy, goal-laden lunchtime treat at Saltergate in League Two.

This is the first meeting between the sides since the National League play-off final in May 2023 at Wembley, a match County won on penalties after a 2-2 draw to clinch promotion back to the Football League.

Chesterfield followed them up 12 months later and now they meet again in a fixture which traditionally produces goals – both teams have found the net in each of their last six meetings, with four of those games producing four goals or more.

These clubs are among League Two’s highest scorers this season and it would be a major surprise if this clash wasn’t wide open and full of goals.

Long shot of the day

Gillingham to beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 @ 11/2

Only bottom club Forest Green scored fewer goals than Gillingham last season and, even under new management, the Gills are struggling to break down defences once again.

Mark Bonner’s men are second in the table and clearly have eyes on promotion but 12 goals scored in just 10 games tells its own story.

They are understandably odds-on to beat struggling Accrington but it would be out of character if they were to win it easily.

They have had three 1-0 wins already this term and this could well be the fourth.
