Tinubu will soon remove subsidy on air, charge Nigerians — Peter Obi
Peter Obi from the Labour Party, LP, condemned President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the subsidy removal reforms, suggesting that the Tinubu administration would also eliminate air subsidies and pass the cost on to Nigerians if given the opportunity.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate voiced these concerns during an interview with News Central TV, which was broadcast on Wednesday.
Peter Obi said, “I’ve said it before, we have to show what is being removed and where it is being applied. You don’t know what the subsidy is today. You don’t know.”
“What they are saying is that petrol subsidy is gone. Electricity subsidy is gone. In fact, soon they will remove the subsidy on air. If they had the chance, they would charge us for air. We are not saying we will not do that. But tell us where it is going.”
Recall that Tinubu’s government announced the removal of fuel subsidy in May 2023.
The development has also led to a hike in petrol pump prices nationwide.
