Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu has assured fans of an even stronger performance from his team in the ongoing WAFU B U-20 Championship, following their 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday night.
The defending champions secured their win at the Stade Municipal in Lomé, overcoming an early setback after conceding the first goal.
Flying Eagles forwards, Kparobo Arierhi and Clinton Jephta each found the net, sealing a comeback victory that demonstrated the team’s resilience.

Reflecting on the match, Zubairu acknowledged the nerves his players felt during the opener but noted significant improvements in their performance.
“The boys were jittery in the first game, which is normal for an opener, but today’s performance showed a much more composed team,” Zubairu remarked.
Looking ahead, Zubairu expressed confidence in his side’s readiness for the semi-final clash against Niger Republic scheduled for Saturday.
“In the semifinal, you will see a better Nigerian team,” he promised. “We are fully committed, as qualifying for the U-20 AFCON is our top priority.”
The Flying Eagles’ progress in the tournament will determine their path toward securing a spot in the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a critical goal for Zubairu and his squad.
