Why I Don’t Want To Face Barcelona In UCL
Pep Guardiola has said he hopes his Manchester City side does not face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
Guardiola had a memorable spell at Barcelona after replacing Frank Rijkaard in 2008.
In his first season in the 2008/2009 campaign, Guardiola led Barcelona to the Treble (La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League).
Hw won the league title again in 2010 and went on to win another Champions League and La Liga title in 2011.
As a player Guardiola was part of a Barcelona side that won La Liga and also won the club’s first Champions League title in 1992.
Blessed to work with the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Dani Alves, Sergio Busquet, Eric Abidjan, David Villa, Pedro, Puyol and Gerard Pique, Guardiola’s team was renowned for their brand of tiki taka brand of football.
Speaking on the possibility of facing his former club, the Spaniard said his wish is that he never crosses paths with the Catalan giants.
“I hope not to face Barça in Champions League. The love and affection I have for Barça destroys me,” he was quoted on Fabrizio Romano’s X handle.
“I was lucky and happy in Barcelona, it’s the team of my heart.”
As Bayern Munich coach, Guardiola faced Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.
A brace from Lionel Messi and a solitary strike from Neymar sealed a 3-0 win for Barcelona in the first leg.
The reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern edged Barcelona 3-2.
