Yobe distributes weighing scales to promote business standards
The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has insisted on the use of standard weighing scales, known as ‘mudu’ by business owners in the state.
The weighing scales, which were procured by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation to ensure fair trade practices among traders in the state, were distributed to the various market segments.
The distribution ceremony took place at the Emir’s Palace in Damaturu, where the scales were handed over to the chairpersons of traders’ associations and the sharia committees from the 17 local government areas of the state.
Buni, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, emphasised that the reintroduction of weighing scales aims to prevent individuals from being cheated in their daily business transactions.
While commending the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation for the initiative, the governor stressed that the effort will promote honesty and adherence to sharia standards in the market, particularly during challenging times as this.
The Commissioner for the Ministry, Alhaji Yusuf Umar, said.
“The sensitisation and distribution of the weighing scales were crucial in maintaining integrity within the trading system, especially in light of economic hardships and inflation faced by the populace.
“The Yobe State Government, under Governor Buni’s leadership, is committed to curbing dishonest practices that exploit consumers for profit.
“Local Government Area sharia committees will oversee the implementation and proper use of the new weighing scales at the grassroots level.”
The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashim El-kanemi, hailed the state government for reintroducing the use of weighing scales to promote transparency in business transactions.
The occasion also featured a presentation highlighting the significance of accurate weighing scale usage.
